Frase Review: Frase.io Review of Plans, Limits, and Fit

Frase is a good buy for small teams that write new articles and want research, drafting, SEO and AI-search scoring, and publishing in one tool from $39 a month billed yearly. It is a weaker fit for maintaining a large library of published pages: Content Guard, the feature that watches for decay and drafts fixes, covers 10, 75, or 300 pages depending on plan, and works on articles created in Frase. If your archive is the problem, price that cap before you sign.

Frase pros and cons

What Frase does well

  • The whole writing loop in one place. Research, brief, draft, score, and publish without copying text between four tools. For a two-person team shipping ten posts a month, that saves real hours.
  • Low entry price. $39 a month billed yearly is less than a third of Clearscope Essentials at $129.
  • AI search built in. GEO scoring on every plan and citation tracking from Professional up, which most writing tools still sell separately.
  • Human approval on decay fixes. Content Guard drafts the fix, a person signs off. That is the right default.

Where Frase falls short

  • Everything is metered. Articles (10, 40, 100), audit pages (50, 250, 1,000), AI generations, and Content Guard pages all have separate monthly caps. Heavy months turn into overage bills on Professional ($5 an article, $0.50 an audit page) and Scale ($4 and $0.40).
  • Maintenance is capped at a slice of the library. A 1,200-page blog on the Scale plan gets 300 pages under Content Guard. The other 900 are not watched.
  • Content Guard favors Frase-made content. Pages written before you adopted Frase, or in another tool, are the ones most likely to be decaying, and they are the ones outside the feature.
  • Seats run out fast. Five seats on Scale is thin for a team with freelancers and an editor.
04

Is Frase good for updating existing content?

Frase is good for updating existing content when that content was created in Frase and fits inside the Content Guard cap. For those pages it spots the drop, drafts the revision, and republishes on approval, which is about as hands-off as a decay workflow gets.

It is less useful for the typical US company archive: several hundred posts written over five years by different people, most of them outside any optimization tool. Frase can still audit those pages (the audit page allowance is 50, 250, or 1,000 a month), but auditing tells you a page is weak. It does not keep watching all of them or rank them by traffic at stake. If the job is to find which of 800 pages lost the most clicks this quarter and what to change on each, you want a tool whose unit is the published page. Our content decay checker does exactly that across the whole sitemap, and the content refresh tool turns each slipping page into a rewrite plan.

05

Who Frase is best for, and who should pick something else

Frase is best for solo marketers and small in-house teams publishing 10 to 40 new articles a month, founders who want one tool for writing and AI search tracking, and small agencies with a handful of client sites (Scale covers up to 10 domains).

Pick something else if your library is over 300 pages and traffic is sliding, you need more than five people in the tool, you want fixed monthly cost with no overage exposure, or most of your pages were written before you would adopt Frase. In those cases a writing tool plus a dedicated maintenance tool usually costs less than pushing Frase to Enterprise. We compare the options on Frase alternatives.

06

Frase compared with other content optimization tools

Entry prices are vendor list prices, billed yearly where the vendor discounts yearly plans. The last column is the one that matters if your problem is pages you already published.

ToolEntry priceBest forPublished pages it watches
Frase$39 per monthWriting and publishing new articles, AI search scoring10 / 75 / 300 (Content Guard)
Surfer SEO$49 per monthContent Editor drafting, team writing standards10 / 50 / 200 / 500 tracked pages
Clearscope$129 per month (monthly only)Editorial teams with many writers, unlimited users50 / 300 tracked pages
MarketMuseQuote via demoTopic modeling and content strategy1 site inventory on each paid tier
Reoptimize$49 per monthFinding and fixing decaying pages across a whole library100 / 1,000 / 5,000 monitored pages

No single row wins everywhere. Frase is cheaper to start and does more for new content. Reoptimize covers more published pages per dollar and writes no new articles. The full comparison is on best content optimization tools.

07

Where Reoptimize fits next to Frase

Reoptimize does the job Frase caps: it keeps every page you already published competitive. Import the sitemap, connect Search Console, and it monitors the whole library, ranks the declining pages by estimated traffic at stake, and writes a rewrite plan for each one: title and meta, missing subtopics, heading order, internal links, schema, and stale facts. Your writers make the edits in your own CMS, with no script on the site.

Plans are Starter at $49 a month billed yearly (100 pages, 20 rewrite plans), Pro at $149 (1,000 pages, 150 plans, 5 seats), and Agency at $399 (5,000 pages across sites). Plenty of teams keep Frase for new articles and run Reoptimize on the archive. Frequently asked questions

Is Frase worth it for SEO?

Frase is worth it for SEO if most of your work is writing new articles: $39 a month billed yearly buys research, AI drafts, SEO and GEO scoring, and publishing in one tool. It is worth less if your traffic problem is an aging library, because Content Guard watches only 10 to 300 pages and each plan caps articles and audit pages.

Is Frase.io legit?

Yes. Frase.io is an established SEO content platform with public pricing, a 7-day trial with no card, and published plan limits. The practical questions are fit and limits, not legitimacy: check the article, audit page, seat, and Content Guard caps against your monthly volume before you choose a plan.

Is Frase better than Surfer SEO?

Frase is better value if you want one tool to research, draft, score, and publish, starting at $39 a month billed yearly. Surfer SEO is stronger as a drafting standard for writers in its Content Editor, starting at $49. For maintaining published pages, both cap how many they track: Frase 10 to 300 under Content Guard, Surfer 10 to 500.

Does Frase track AI search visibility?

Yes, on the Professional plan and above. Frase AI Visibility shows which of your pages ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI cite and alerts you when share of voice changes. Every plan, including Starter, gets SEO and GEO scoring on individual pages, but citation tracking is not part of Starter.

What does Frase Content Guard do?

Content Guard watches published pages for ranking and traffic decay and drafts a fix when one slips. You approve each change, and low-risk edits can ship automatically if you enable it. It covers 10, 75, or 300 pages by plan and needs the article created in Frase, a published URL, and Google Search Console connected.
