Scalenut is a good buy for content teams that publish new articles every week and want keyword clusters, AI drafting, and AI visibility tracking in one tool: on its current yearly offer it costs $24 to $80 a month, which is cheaper than most writing editors. It is a weaker fit when the real problem is a large published library losing clicks, because it optimizes a fixed number of articles a month and does not rank your old pages by the traffic they have lost.
We checked every plan and limit below on Scalenut's own pricing page. Prices are in US dollars. The yearly prices are a discount the vendor labels as a limited offer, so confirm them at checkout before you budget around them.
Scalenut review: the verdict in one table
| Area | Our verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Excellent on yearly billing | $24, $36, and $80 a month billed yearly with doubled limits; $59, $89, and $199 billed monthly |
| New article creation | Strong | 5 to 75 articles a month (10 to 150 on the yearly offer), plus keyword clusters on every plan |
| AI visibility tracking | Good for the price | 10, 25, or 100 prompts refreshed weekly in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews; Perplexity on Professional |
| Team access | Good from Professional | Plus allows up to 4 team members; Professional is unlimited |
| Content audit | Useful, capped | None on Starter; 200 or 1,000 pages a month on Plus and Professional |
| Maintaining a large published library | Limited | No decay ranking by lost clicks described; each existing article you optimize uses a monthly credit |
Scalenut pricing: every plan and limit
Scalenut sells three self-serve plans and a done-for-you service. The yearly offer does two things at once: it cuts the price by about 60% and doubles most monthly allowances. Prompt tracking is the exception; it stays at 10, 25, or 100.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly offer, per month | Articles created and optimized a month | Content audit pages a month | AI prompts tracked | Workspaces |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $59 | $24 | 5 each (10 on yearly) | None | 10 | 1 domain |
| Plus | $89 | $36 | 30 each (60 on yearly) | 200 (400 on yearly) | 25 | 2 domains |
| Professional | $199 | $80 | 75 each (150 on yearly) | 1,000 (2,000 on yearly) | 100 | Unlimited |
| VIP Service | Custom | A senior strategist, writers and editors, backlinks, a monthly technical audit, and weekly reporting | ||||
Plus adds the features most teams actually want: the advanced content audit, internal linking suggestions, topic gaps, auto-publish to WordPress and Shopify, and two add-ons Scalenut bundles in (Social Upreach for Reddit and a backlinks marketplace). Professional adds an advanced keyword planner, cannibalization analysis, a dedicated customer success manager, and priority support. Integrations listed on the page are Semrush, WordPress, Shopify, and Copyscape.
In yearly terms, Starter comes to $288, Plus to $432, and Professional to $960. Monthly billing on Professional is $2,388 a year, so the yearly offer is where Scalenut is priced to win.
What is Scalenut used for?
Scalenut is used to plan, write, and optimize SEO content that ranks in Google and gets mentioned in AI answers. In practice a team builds keyword clusters, generates briefs and drafts from them, scores and edits the draft in the editor, publishes to WordPress or Shopify, and tracks whether ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews mention the brand for a set of prompts.
The product now calls this GEO, or generative engine optimization. The shift matters for buyers: two years ago Scalenut was mostly an AI writer, and many reviews in the search results still describe that version. The 2026 product leads with AI visibility and treats writing as the engine behind it.
Is Scalenut free?
No. Scalenut has no free plan, but it lists a 7-day free trial on the monthly Starter, Plus, and Professional plans. The site also offers free single-purpose tools and a free course. A week is enough to test the editor on a few drafts. It is not enough to judge the audit on a large site or to see whether AI visibility changes, because both take weeks to show a trend.
What Scalenut does well
- Price for volume. 150 created and 150 optimized articles a month for $80 on the yearly Professional offer is hard to beat if you really produce at that pace.
- Clusters before writing. Keyword clustering sits on every plan, so writers start from a topic map instead of a single keyword.
- AI visibility in the same bill. Weekly prompt tracking is included rather than sold as a separate product, which is not true of every writing tool.
- Publishing. Auto-publish to WordPress and Shopify on Plus and up removes a copy-and-paste step that eats time at volume.
Where Scalenut falls short
The unit of work is the article. Starter optimizes 5 existing articles a month, Plus 30, Professional 75 (double on yearly). That works when you already know which articles need attention. It works less well when a site has 600 posts, traffic is down 20% year over year, and nobody knows which 40 pages caused it.
Scalenut's content audit page describes GEO scores, keyword gaps across more than 200 ranking factors, one-click refresh suggestions, and mapping pages to AI prompts. It does not describe connecting Google Search Console or ranking pages by the clicks they have lost, which is the first question in content maintenance. Starter has no audit at all, and Plus audits 200 pages a month, so larger libraries need Professional.
The other limit is the one every AI writer shares: drafts need an editor. Treat generated text as a first pass, and budget human time for facts, examples, and voice.
Is Scalenut better than Surfer SEO?
Scalenut is better than Surfer SEO on price and writing volume; Surfer is better at tracking existing pages. Surfer's plans run $49 to $299 a month billed yearly and track 10 to 500 pages with ranking drop alerts on every plan, while Scalenut Professional costs $80 on its yearly offer for 150 articles a month. Writers who want the more established live editor tend to prefer Surfer; teams chasing volume and AI visibility on a small budget tend to prefer Scalenut. Our Surfer SEO review covers its plans in detail.
Is Scalenut worth it?
Scalenut is worth it if new content is most of your job. Three profiles get clear value:
- A startup or small team publishing 10 to 30 posts a month on one or two domains: Plus on the yearly offer at $36 a month.
- An agency running content for several clients: Professional for unlimited workspaces and team members.
- A brand that wants a first read on AI visibility without buying a separate tracker.
It is harder to justify for a content lead whose new-post calendar is light but whose archive is sliding. If your team plans to hand off production entirely, an AI SEO agent that publishes blog content on autopilot is a different kind of purchase from an editor. And if the losses are in old pages, the tool you need is one that watches the whole library.
A better fit when the traffic loss is in old pages
Reoptimize is built for that second case. It reads your sitemap and Search Console, monitors 100, 1,000, or 5,000 published pages, ranks the ones losing clicks by traffic at stake, and returns a rewrite plan for each: title and meta, missing subtopics, heading order, internal links, schema, and stale facts. Your writers apply it in your own CMS. Pro covers 1,000 pages and 150 rewrite plans a month for $149 billed yearly.
That is more than Scalenut's yearly offer, and we would not suggest switching if new articles are what you mainly produce. Many teams keep Scalenut for writing and add a maintenance tool for the archive.
