Sample plan: we could not reach your page from here, so this shows the shape of a Reoptimize rewrite plan, not an audit of this page.

Clearscope is one of the best content optimization tools for editorial teams that publish every week: its reports are the easiest in the category for a writer to act on, and every plan includes unlimited users. It is a harder buy for teams whose main problem is keeping a large published library ranking, because Essentials tracks 50 pages, Business tracks 300, and both plans include only 20 drafts a month. Buy it for writing quality across many writers. Look elsewhere if most of your work is refreshing old pages.

We checked the plans and limits below on Clearscope's own pricing page. Essentials is $129 a month, Business is $399 a month, and Enterprise is quoted individually. There is a 14-day free trial and no contract.

What is Clearscope used for?

Clearscope is used to make a piece of content as complete as the pages that already rank for its query. A writer creates a draft for a keyword, and Clearscope returns a content grade plus the terms, questions, and headings the top results cover. The writer edits until the grade is competitive, usually inside Google Docs or WordPress through Clearscope's add-ons.

Beyond drafts, the plans include three other jobs:

  • Topic explorations for planning what to write next (20 a month on Essentials, 50 on Business).
  • Tracked pages in the content inventory, which feed the Content Decay view. It compares each page's clicks over the last 90 days with the same window a year earlier, so you can see which posts are sliding.
  • Tracked queries for brand and AI visibility monitoring, 50 on Essentials and 300 on Business.

At list price, Essentials costs $1,548 a year and Business $4,788 before add-ons. The detail most buyers miss: Business costs three times as much and includes the same 20 drafts. You pay for more tracked pages, more queries, more research, and an account manager. Every line of the math, including add-ons and the trial, is in our Clearscope pricing breakdown.

Clearscope pros and cons

What Clearscope does well

  • Reports writers actually use. The grade and term list are clear enough that an editor can hand a report to a new freelancer and get a usable draft back.
  • Unlimited seats. A team of 12 writers and editors pays the same as a team of two, which makes Clearscope cheaper than per-seat tools at scale.
  • Works where writers write. Google Docs and WordPress add-ons keep the grade next to the draft.
  • Honest decay view. The year-over-year click comparison is a sensible way to spot pages that lost ground.

Where Clearscope falls short

  • High floor price. $129 a month is more than double the entry tier at Surfer or Frase, and no annual discount is published.
  • Drafts are scarce. 20 a month is about one per working day, shared between new articles and refreshes.
  • Tracked pages cover a slice of a real library. A 600-page blog on Business still leaves half its pages outside the decay view.
  • A grade, not a plan. Clearscope tells a writer what the page is missing against the SERP. It does not rank your library by traffic at stake or tell you which pages to work on first.

Is Clearscope worth it?

Clearscope is worth it for teams of five or more writers publishing 10 to 20 new articles a month, where unlimited seats and writer-friendly reports save real editing time. It is worth less for a small team, where $129 a month buys roughly what $49 buys elsewhere, and for teams whose traffic problem is an aging archive rather than new content.

A quick test before you renew: count how many of last quarter's drafts went to refreshes. If refreshes are close to half, the plan's smallest allowances (drafts and tracked pages) are the ones doing the heavy lifting, and you are paying for research and query tracking you use less.

Is Clearscope better than Surfer SEO?

Clearscope is better for larger editorial teams, because every plan includes unlimited users and its reports are simpler for writers to follow. Surfer SEO is better value for small teams, starting at $49 a month billed yearly with 120 documents, and it adds AI Tracker from its Standard plan and 1-click internal linking from Pro. For monitoring published pages, both cap the count: Clearscope at 50 or 300, Surfer at 10 to 500. Our Surfer SEO review covers the other side in the same format.

If you are already leaning toward a switch, the Clearscope alternative page compares the options for teams in that position, including the cases where staying on Clearscope is the right call.

Who should pick something else

Pick another tool if your library is over 300 pages and traffic is sliding, if most of your drafts go to refreshes, or if you need to know which pages to fix first rather than how to grade one page. Teams that want to build their own grading from raw SERP data sometimes skip the subscription and pull competitor pages through a web scraping API that returns clean page text, though that means maintaining the scoring logic yourself.

For the maintenance job, Reoptimize monitors the whole library, ranks declining pages by estimated traffic at stake, and writes a rewrite plan for each: title and meta, missing subtopics, heading order, internal links, schema, and stale facts. Pro covers 1,000 pages and 150 rewrite plans a month for $149 billed yearly, which is less than Clearscope Business and covers more than three times the pages. Many teams keep Clearscope for new articles and run Reoptimize on the archive. Frequently asked questions

How much does Clearscope cost?

Clearscope costs $129 a month for Essentials and $399 a month for Business; Enterprise is priced by quote. Both self-serve plans include unlimited users and 20 drafts a month. Essentials tracks 50 pages and 50 queries, Business tracks 300 of each and adds a dedicated account manager. Extra pages and drafts are paid add-ons.

Does Clearscope have a free trial?

Yes. Clearscope lists a 14-day free trial on every plan, including Enterprise, and there are no contracts: you can cancel at any time without a penalty. Use the trial to run drafts on real pages you plan to publish or refresh, so you can judge the reports on your own topics.

Is Clearscope good for SEO?

Yes, Clearscope is good for on-page SEO: it shows writers which terms, questions, and headings the ranking pages cover, which makes content more complete for the query. It does not build links or fix technical issues, and it does not decide which of your existing pages to work on first. Pair it with a monitoring tool for that.

Who is Clearscope best for?

Clearscope is best for in-house content teams and agencies with several writers and editors, publishing 10 to 20 articles a month, who value clear reports and unlimited seats over low price. It fits less well for solo marketers on a tight budget and for teams whose main job is maintaining a library of hundreds of published pages.
