Sample plan: it shows the shape and wording of a Reoptimize rewrite plan, not an audit of this page. Figures and findings are illustrative.
Content optimization platforms cost between $19 and $499 a month at the entry tier: NeuronWriter $19, Frase $39, Surfer SEO $49, Reoptimize $49, Clearscope $129, Semrush $139.95, and MarketMuse by quote. For a team that owns hundreds of published pages, the sticker price is the wrong number to compare. The right one is cost per monitored page, because every platform caps how many existing URLs it tracks, and that cap decides whether the tool covers your library or a slice of it.
The prices below were checked on each vendor's own pricing page or documentation in September 2026, and the linked breakdowns carry the plan-by-plan detail. Where a platform sells by quote, we say so rather than guess.
Content optimization platform pricing at a glance
Yearly billing is used where a vendor offers it, since that is how most teams buy. Monthly rates are typically 15 to 20 percent higher.
| Platform | Entry plan, billed yearly | Top self-serve plan | Existing pages tracked | Priced around |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reoptimize | $49 per month (Starter) | $399 per month (Agency) | 100 / 1,000 / 5,000 | Monitored pages and rewrite plans |
| NeuronWriter | $19 per month (Bronze) | $97 per month (Diamond) | Not a page-tracking product; 25 analyses on Bronze | Content analyses and projects |
| Frase | $39 per month (Starter) | $239 per month (Scale) | Content Guard 10 / 75 / 300; audit pages 50 / 250 / 1,000 | Articles, briefs, seats |
| Surfer SEO | $49 per month (Discovery) | $299 per month (Peace of Mind) | 10 / 50 / 200 / 500 | Documents, tracked pages, seats |
| Clearscope | $129 per month (Essentials, monthly only) | $399 per month (Business) | 50 / 300 | Reports, tracked pages |
| Semrush | $139.95 per month (Pro) | $499.95 per month (Business) | Content Audit covers a site section per project | Projects and suite limits |
| MarketMuse | By quote (last listed Optimize $99, Research $249, Strategy $499) | By quote | Topics per plan: 100 / 1,000 / 10,000 | Topics, briefs, users |
Two things stand out. Only three of the seven price primarily around existing pages: Reoptimize, Surfer's tracked pages, and Clearscope's Content Inventory. Frase watches pages too, but Content Guard applies to articles created inside Frase. The others price around new drafts, topics, or a full marketing suite, so their "page limit" is really a research limit.
Cost per monitored page
If the job is keeping an archive competitive, divide the plan price by the number of published pages it will actually track. This table uses each vendor's mid and top self-serve tiers, billed yearly.
| Plan | Price per month | Pages tracked | Cost per page per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reoptimize Starter | $49 | 100 | $0.49 |
| Reoptimize Pro | $149 | 1,000 | $0.15 |
| Reoptimize Agency | $399 | 5,000 | $0.08 |
| Surfer Standard | $99 | 50 | $1.98 |
| Surfer Pro | $182 | 200 | $0.91 |
| Surfer Peace of Mind | $299 | 500 | $0.60 |
| Clearscope Essentials | $129 (monthly) | 50 | $2.58 |
| Clearscope Business | $399 (monthly) | 300 | $1.33 |
| Frase Professional | $103 | 75 (Content Guard) | $1.37 |
| Frase Scale | $239 | 300 (Content Guard) | $0.80 |
The spread is wide because the products are built for different moments. Surfer and Clearscope charge for an editor a writer lives in all day, and page tracking is an add-on to that. Reoptimize charges for the monitoring and the per-page rewrite plan, and has no drafting editor at all. If your writers need the editor, the per-page cost of tracking may be worth paying. If your problem is the archive, it usually is not.
What a 1,000-page library costs on each platform
Take a SaaS or publisher site with 1,000 indexed pages and a traffic line that has slid 20 percent in a year. To watch all 1,000 pages for decay and get guidance on the ones that slip:
- Reoptimize Pro: $149 a month billed yearly, $1,788 a year, 1,000 monitored pages and 150 rewrite plans a month.
- Surfer: Peace of Mind covers 500 pages for $299 a month; 1,000 pages means Enterprise, listed from $999 a month.
- Clearscope: Business covers 300 pages for $399 a month; 1,000 pages is an Enterprise conversation.
- Frase: Scale covers 300 Content Guard pages for $239 a month, and only for content created in Frase, so an existing archive is out of scope regardless of price.
- Semrush Pro: $139.95 a month runs Content Audit on a site section with Search Console data, but the fixes per page are left to you.
The honest version of that list is that the three writing platforms are excellent for the 4 to 8 new articles a month a team publishes, and priced accordingly. Their tracked-page caps are sized for a writer's active projects, not for an archive. Per-plan details, overages, and refund terms are in our breakdowns of Surfer SEO pricing, Clearscope pricing, Frase pricing, and MarketMuse pricing.
Hidden costs to check before you sign
The entry price rarely survives contact with a real team. Four line items move the total most.
- Seats. Surfer includes 1, 3, 5, or 10 seats by tier. Frase includes 1, 3, or 5 and charges $29 a month per extra seat on Professional and Scale. Clearscope includes unlimited users on both plans, which makes its higher sticker price closer than it looks for a large team. Reoptimize includes 15 seats on Agency.
- Overages. Frase publishes them: $5 per extra article and $0.50 per audit page on Professional, with a hard stop on Starter. Surfer sells add-on documents and AI credits. Ask for the overage sheet before the sales call ends.
- Monthly versus yearly. Surfer's monthly rates are $10 to $60 a month higher than yearly. Frase's are about 25 percent higher. Clearscope lists monthly only. A team that expects to churn after a quarter should price monthly and compare that column.
- Refund terms. Surfer's knowledge base describes a 7-day money-back window for first-time subscribers. Frase offers a 7-day trial without a card instead. Clearscope has a 14-day trial. Know which applies before an annual charge lands.
How to present the cost to a CFO
Finance does not buy content optimization; it buys recovered traffic at a known price. The pitch that works is a per-page number tied to a per-page outcome. Count the pages that lost traffic year over year, estimate the monthly visits at stake, and put the platform cost next to it. On a 1,000-page library with 80 declining pages losing an average of 150 visits a month each, that is 12,000 visits a month at stake against $149 a month of software plus writer time. If the per-page traffic data has to come out of a warehouse rather than Search Console, an AI data analyst that answers plain-English questions with SQL gets the declining-page list in front of finance without a ticket to the data team.
Transparent pricing helps that conversation. Of the seven platforms above, five publish their full price list; MarketMuse requires a demo and Surfer's Enterprise tier is "from $999". A CFO who can read the plan limits on a public page approves faster than one who has to trust a sales quote.
Which platform to choose
Choose Surfer, Clearscope, or Frase when your writers need guidance on every new draft and the archive is small enough to fit inside their tracked-page cap. Choose Semrush when you already run the suite and want an inventory with Search Console data attached. Choose MarketMuse when the job is topic planning across a large site and the budget supports a quoted contract. If a writing platform's page cap is the reason you are shopping, the Clearscope alternative, Frase alternatives, and MarketMuse alternative pages compare the options for that exact case.
Choose Reoptimize when the problem is a library that ranked and slipped. It monitors every page, ranks the declining ones by traffic at stake, and writes a rewrite plan per page covering the title, missing subtopics, heading order, internal links, schema, and stale facts, at $0.15 per page on Pro. Paste a URL into the analyzer at the top of this page to see the plan for one page, run the content decay checker across the site, and compare the three plans on the pricing page. The wider field, with strengths and weaknesses of each, is on best content optimization tools.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a content optimization platform cost?
Entry plans run from $19 a month (NeuronWriter) through $39 (Frase), $49 (Surfer SEO and Reoptimize), $129 (Clearscope), and $139.95 (Semrush), billed yearly where available. Top self-serve tiers reach $239 to $499 a month, and enterprise contracts at Surfer start from $999 a month. MarketMuse is priced by quote.
Which content optimization platform is cheapest per page?
Reoptimize Pro at $149 a month for 1,000 monitored pages works out to about $0.15 per page, and Agency at $399 for 5,000 pages to about $0.08. Among writing platforms, Surfer Peace of Mind is the lowest at about $0.60 per tracked page, followed by Frase Scale at $0.80 and Clearscope Business at $1.33.
Do content optimization platforms charge for existing pages or new content?
Both, in different proportions. Surfer, Clearscope, and Frase price mainly around documents, reports, or articles for new content, with tracked or watched pages as a capped secondary limit. Reoptimize prices only around monitored existing pages and the rewrite plans generated for them, with no drafting editor.
Is there a content optimization platform with transparent pricing?
Yes. Reoptimize, Surfer SEO, Frase, Clearscope, NeuronWriter, and Semrush all publish full plan prices and limits on their pricing pages. MarketMuse moved to quote-based pricing after its acquisition by Siteimprove, and enterprise tiers at most vendors are quoted rather than listed.
